Black Desert reaches $1 Billion, they can afford to ease back on predatory monetization

Recommended Posts

Black Desert has apparently made over $1 Billion in sales in around 4 years. I think its safe to say they can afford to relax some of the horrifically predatory monetization practices they employ. (But we all know they won't)

For example, let us buy character slots with Loyalties... please.

Here is one of many articles reporting the story, enjoy:

You forgot where the game came from... Trust me I agree they should stop being greedy but the wallet warriors won't stop throwing cash at them so until then nothing will change.

Why would any company adjust their practices to make less money?

That is a great question actually. The answer is because changing to less predatory monetization practices may improve customer satisfaction and retention which translates to a higher potential revenue ceiling per customer and more money in the long term. As these big gaming companies try to build lucrative business models they seem to often forget about building sustainable business models. We are seeing a shift in the industry, these highly predatory practices that have made companies a lot of money in the short term are not sustainable and if those companies want to survive and thrive they will need to adapt.

I’ve been saying this since day one. The game is clearly a cash grab, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad game & that one can’t enjoy it.

Good points, I agree just wish it was slightly fair to both parties.

Congratulations, you named two items. Out of every item in game, which, being more than 200, still makes his 99% an appropriate figure.

A company whose grossed a billion in sales probably has a team of specialists who already determined this is the most profitable model, it would be disingenuous to assume otherwise.

Well they worked on Xbox version several years with shitton of delays, so until it pays back, I wouldn't count for anything.

Also if it makes money, with current status...

If theyve made 4 billion id say theyre doing a great job. No need to offer discounts. They have sales every year giving you almost half off of the items. Plus toms of freebies for constant loggins. Just play the game and stop expecting something for nothing.

Stuff like character slots for loyalties and weight for loyalties will come too, just after theyve made a certain amount lol.

And yeah, you probably would. But it still wouldn't massively decrease the figure. Pretty much most mmos these days are pay for Convenience. Idk what else you guys expect to be honest.

I love the potatoe heads arguing over my "99% comment". Don't take that statement literal ... it was meant to say the overwhelming majority of items are in CM.

I'm surprised someone didn't actually crunch the numbers "well...ummm...technically speaking. If you factor in the loyalty rewards, being a full moon, and me being a straight git gud nub. It's 93.7888 (repeating of course) % of items in CM. So sir, you can clear you see you are wrong and I'M right. Durrrrrrrrr"

Who in their right mind would take issue with a reduction of predatory monetization practices? (Obvious answer: someone who isn't in their right mind.) If you would, would you also take issue with reducing crime, sickness, poverty or war? If yes,  congratulations the world is full of your favorite things.

The ideal in not achievable, it is an ever moving target we must constantly strive for. There is always room for improvement, I am simply suggesting we attempt to make some improvements to this game that we all enjoy.

It is our responsibility to voice our protest to the publishers and developers of this game by speaking out and by refusing to spend money on things that we feel are predatory. We speak loudest with out wallets, just in case, we should probably speak with our words as well.

P2W cronned 42 pen attempts today, hes paid everyones salary for the week. You speak as loud as you want with your 42$ total spent in game, i guarantee it falls on deaf ears.

This game isn't p2w btw.. I mean just think the average player will probably have 82 pen attempts a year from now if that, and those gamepass players, hell they may never attempt one. Lol. Such an awesome convenience they added to the game. We should all be thankful pearl abyss adds so much convenience through their cash shop.

In all seriousness the only people with Pen enchant are p2w players. It's gross, its a turnoff and its more p2w than ever. If people thought it was p2w before the update... LOL.

But but its not p2w because he had to enchant the item... Lol get real. He essentially bought his pens from the cash shop.

This game is such a gross cash grab and its already hemorrhaging players. Its not like BDO is gonna be welcoming to gamepass players. All that will be left in this game is a small community of hardcores and casual creating characters and chasing butterflies. I'm guessing a couple weeks after the release on gamepass they'll start cutting servers off because half of them aren't even needed anymore.

Im not sure what you didnt get. He paid thousands. Failed every pen. He won nothing. There aint no pay to win in this game lol. He paid to loose. Big time. Im sure he got some gains from it otherwise. But mostly he spent alot of money for safe enhances only to get nothing from it. Itll hemmorage the casuals who thought they could pay 10$ and have the world but most people understand its a 200-300$ mmo to be relevant and deal with it. Of you dont reroll you pay it once and chill.

Good day for the ignore list. You are NOT a revolutionary, so stop thinking your incessant fitting will make any sort of difference.
