About the wizard and witch awakening

Before I start let me preface this with I know awakening is not out on ps4 yet. And I know the wizard with awakening is already released on PC and has been out for a while. Still and just hear me out here....

 

wizard and witch should get a rework for their awakening where they can choose the the two elements they want to take.

 

it'd create more diversity for the class and honestly be an interesting way of doing their skills

 

note when I say this I mean so in the way that at awakening they make the choice and lock it in by taking the orbs of their chosen elements and combining it into a singular weapon for the awaken weapon slot. And their chosen weapon determines which skill they can use.

 

now I understand this may cause an issue where players may use the marketplace to buy other combos they didn’t take to which there are two options in which to deal with this.

either allow it and have the which ever combo they equip affect their usable skills but do not refund the skill points or skills and unless they go through the respec process.

Ie if they were fire and water then went to fire and earth, they can’t use the water skills but they are still considered obtained and they don’t get the points back unless they take the time to unlearn the skill at an npc.

 

or alternatively when they make their choice of element, their skills are locked to that meaning they can only buy parts to make the combo they have chosen or buy said combo.

i.e. Water lightning can only buy another water lightning from the market place and something like lightning fire cannot be equipped.

 

i know it’s a lot but let’s be honest that’s be pretty bad ass right?

I like the idea but this will not work unless they rework each individual awakening skill the wizard and witch have. The wizards awakening was designed separately from the witch's, being allowed to choose individual skills from each others awakening would be OP. It would be OP because you could choose to have the block and the grab, all of the super armor skills and the highest damage skills.

I think it would be interesting if the wizard and witch awakening quest line presented them with a choice to either learn about the ada sphere or the godr sphere. Thus which ever sphere they choose would determine their awakening tree.

Primarily a Sorc main here so maybe I’m missing something. I also do understand it’s likely need a rework because of the initial design.

but aren’t those skills separated into respective elements. Like the water whirlwind one for example.

probably not one of their most high damaging skills and more of a stay away from me skill. But using that as an example. Even if the player decided to unlock it, if they didn’t have the corresponding sphere they wouldnt be able to use the skill. Similarly to how if you de-equip the sorcs secondary weapon you lose access to certain skills.

like mixing the fire and lightning spheres would permit access to using skills linked to those elements only while in awakening.

basically they’d still be locked to only a hand full of skills based on which of the two elements they obtained.

In both models I presented for how to best handle this so t doesn’t become OP the player isn’t given full access to every skill so they’d be limited and unable to just take all the hard hitting skills if I’m not mistaken. 

The more free form model still requires the player to properly repec in order to gain their skill points back and get the skills from the other elements and additionally the elements once fused are locked in as a single weapon requiring them to repeat a weapon creation process to even get access to the other stuff.

the other model locks them to the two chosen elements they select limiting the skills they can acquire anyway.

while I do like your alternative suggestion if this is truly not feasible and OP. I don’t see how it could be necessarily broken especially if model 2 is followed in terms of how handle the skills and weapon slot.

Well what I mean is that if you choose fire and lightning, you would get 4 super armor skills. Each skill uses the same key press to function and does almost the same thing. The fire and lightning combo would be way more powerful than earth and water, which would only get 1 super armor skill. This is why I say they would have to completely rework the skills. If you were allowed to choose each individual element, there would be 6 total combinations and that would require some rework.

Ahhh i see. Damn would have been so cool if you could mix and match from the start. Would have loved to do a water lightning witch and earth fire wizard.

considering they’re trying to push new content out more so than rework something thats already decent i guess its a pipe dream then. Though with them trying to add in more traditional roles like healer with the shai maybe they'll circle back for a rework (Not unheard of in an mmo) Though I'm doubtful.
